What do the book visibility settings mean?
Your book's visibility controls whether a short sample (the cover, table of contents, and Introduction chapter) appears on TailoredRead's public Explore Books page, and whether your name is shown next to it. The full book is always private to you, no matter the setting.
Books are private by default. When you first open your book, TailoredRead shows a visibility dialog so you can switch to public if you'd like — public samples help other readers find ideas for their own books. Visibility only changes when you confirm a choice in the dialog. Cancelling or closing keeps the current setting — which for a new book is still private. You can change visibility any time from the ⋮ menu inside the reader, under Visibility.
There are three options:
- Public with Credit. The sample (cover, table of contents, and Introduction chapter) appears on the Explore Books page with a small byline showing you as the creator. Other readers can press Personalize and Buy Book to start their own book from the same title. Only the title carries over — they answer the questionnaire themselves, and their book is generated fresh from their own inputs.
- Public and Anonymous. Same public sample, same Personalize and Buy Book option, but your name isn't shown.
- Private. The book is visible only to you. Nothing about it appears on the Explore page or anywhere else on TailoredRead.
One thing worth calling out: the "credit" in "Public with Credit" refers to a small byline next to the sample on our Explore page. It's not the author byline inside your book. The author line inside the book stays "TailoredRead AI" until you edit it in the Word file, regardless of visibility setting. If that's what you're after, see How do I put my name as the author?.
The credit shows your first name and avatar from your Google account. These come directly from Google, so you can't edit them on TailoredRead. If you signed up with an email link instead of Google, no name or photo credit appears.
