How do I open my book on any device?

You can read your book on any phone, tablet, e-reader, or computer. Open it in the online reader from Your Library, or download a file and open it in a reading app. Both the EPUB and the PDF are free for every buyer.

Pick the file by how you want to read:

  • EPUB is the reflowable ebook file. The device controls the font, size, margins, and page color, and the text reflows to fit the screen. Best for phones, tablets, e-readers, and Mac.
  • PDF keeps a fixed page layout that looks identical everywhere. Best for printing, and for opening anywhere with no extra app (handy on Windows, which has no built-in EPUB reader).

Download either one from the reader: open the book, press the menu in the top-right corner, and pick Download EPUB (eBook) or one of the Download PDF options.

Open the EPUB on a phone, tablet, or computer

Most devices have a built-in or free reading app. The built-in app is listed first for each one.

iPhone or iPad

Apple Books is built in. Tap the downloaded .epub file and it opens in Books. You can also install the Kindle, Google Play Books, or Kobo app from the App Store.

Mac

Apple Books is built in. Double-click the .epub file, or drag it onto the Books app. Kindle, Kobo, and Calibre also open it.

Windows

Windows has no built-in EPUB reader. The easiest option is Thorium Reader: free, no ads, and a one-click install from the Microsoft Store or the Thorium website. It opens the .epub with adjustable fonts and a dark mode. Google Play Books works in a browser with no install if you upload your file there, and Calibre is a heavier option if you also want to manage a library. If you would rather not install anything, download the PDF instead and open it in your browser.

Android

Google Play Books is preinstalled on most phones. Open it, then add the .epub from your device or from play.google.com/books on a computer. Kindle, Kobo, and Moon+ Reader are free alternatives.

Linux

No reader is built in, so install a free one: Foliate, Calibre, or Thorium Reader. Google Play Books in a browser works too.

Open the EPUB on an e-reader

  • Kindle. Use Send to Kindle with the EPUB. It reads like any Kindle book, so you control the font size and page color.
  • Kobo. Kobo reads EPUB directly. Add the .epub through the Kobo app, or connect the e-reader to your computer and copy the file across.
  • PocketBook. PocketBook reads EPUB directly. Copy the .epub to the device over USB, or send it through PocketBook Cloud.
  • Boox. Boox e-readers run Android, so install any reading app (Google Play Books, Kindle, Kobo) or open the .epub in the built-in reading app.
  • KOReader. A free reading app you can install on many Kindle, Kobo, and other e-readers. It opens the .epub directly.

Open the PDF

A PDF opens on any device with no extra app:

  • Phone or tablet. Tap the downloaded file to open it in your browser or your device's built-in PDF viewer.
  • Mac. Double-click to open it in Preview.
  • Windows or any computer. Open it in your browser, or in a reader like Adobe Acrobat.

For the phone-sized PDF, use Download PDF for Phone. For a tablet or computer, use Download PDF for Tablet or Computer. See How do I download or print my book (PDF)? for print tips.
