How do I send my book to Kindle?
Sending a book to your Kindle is a manual step — it isn't automatic after purchase. You download the PDF from your library and upload it to Amazon's Send to Kindle page yourself. After that, Amazon makes the book available everywhere you're signed in with the same Amazon account: a Kindle e-reader, a Fire tablet, the Kindle app on your phone, tablet, or Mac, or Kindle Cloud Reader in any web browser.
Here's how:
- Open the book from Your Library.
- Press the ⋮ menu button in the top-right corner and select Send to Kindle.
- In the dialog that opens, press Download PDF for Tablet or Computer (or Download PDF for Phone if you plan to read on a phone).
- Pick your Amazon region, then click the Send to Kindle link.
- Amazon's Send to Kindle page opens. Sign in to Amazon if prompted.
- Press Select files, pick the downloaded PDF, and press Send.
That uploads the book to Amazon under your account. Within a minute or two it will appear on every Kindle device or app you're signed in to.
A few things to know:
- You need to be signed in to Amazon with the account tied to your Kindle.
- If you use
amazon.co.uk,amazon.ca,amazon.de, or another regional site, pick that region in step 4 to land on the matching Send to Kindle page.
Sent it but can't find the book on your Kindle?
After you press Send, the book first goes to your Amazon library. On most Kindle devices and apps you then have to tap the book once to download it onto that device. Until you do, it stays in your library but won't show up under Downloaded on the device.
If your book isn't showing up after Send to Kindle reported success:
- Switch from the "Downloaded" tab to "All". Most Kindle devices and apps (the e-reader, the phone or tablet app, and the browser) split your library into two views: Downloaded (only what's on this device) and All (everything in your Amazon library). If you're on "Downloaded" and the new book isn't there, switch to "All".
- Tap the book to download it. Once it appears in "All", a single tap (or click) starts the download onto that device. When it finishes, the book also appears in "Downloaded".
- Sync your library. On a Kindle e-reader or a desktop app, open the menu and choose Sync. On a phone or tablet, pull the library list down to refresh. New deliveries sometimes need a manual sync before they appear.
- Ask Amazon to send it again. If syncing doesn't bring it through, visit Amazon's Manage Your Content and Devices page, find the book under "Books", choose More actions → Deliver, and pick the Kindle you want it on. This is the most direct way to get Amazon to resend it to a specific device.
- Check the Amazon account. If your Kindle device or app is signed in to a different Amazon account than the one you used on the Send to Kindle page, the book won't appear. Sign in to the matching account on both ends.
