How do I send a book to a Kindle app or device?

Sending a book to your Kindle is a manual step — it isn't automatic after purchase. You download the PDF from your library and upload it to Amazon's Send to Kindle page yourself; Amazon then delivers it to your Kindle app or device.

Here's the flow:

  1. Open the book from Your Library.
  2. Press the menu button in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Send to Kindle.
  4. On the dialog that opens, download the PDF, pick your Amazon region, then open your Amazon Send to Kindle page.
  5. On Amazon's page, press Select files (or Select files from device), pick the downloaded PDF, and press Send.

That uploads the book to Amazon under your account. Within a minute or two it syncs to every device signed in to that Amazon account — Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire, and the Kindle app on phone, tablet, or computer.

A few things to know:

  • You need to be signed in on Amazon with the account tied to your Kindle.
  • If you use amazon.co.uk, amazon.ca, amazon.de, or another regional site, pick that region in step 4 to land on the matching Send to Kindle page.
  • Once the PDF is in your Kindle library, the Kindle app's own features (font size, highlights, syncing your page) work on it normally.
