How do I get an audiobook of my book?

After you buy an English book, you can buy its audiobook as a separate one-time purchase. An AI voice narrates every chapter, and you listen in the reader, in a podcast app, or from downloaded files.

Buying

  1. Open the book from Your Library.
  2. Press the headphones button at the top of the reader. The Audiobook panel opens.
  3. Under Choose your narrator, pick Emma (female voice) or James (male voice). Your choice is saved as the default for all your books.
  4. Press play to hear a free preview of your own book in that voice.
  5. Press Buy the audiobook. Checkout takes a card, and Apple Pay and Google Pay work too.

The price is one-time. To get the same book in the other voice, press Another narrator at the bottom of the panel. It's a separate purchase at the same price.

When it's ready

Chapters become playable in the panel as each one is narrated, usually within minutes. If your book is still being written, narration starts when the book is finished. One email arrives when the whole audiobook is ready, with a Listen now button that opens the reader.

Listening in the reader

After you pay, the Audiobook panel becomes the player:

  • Play and pause, skip back 15 seconds, and skip forward 30 seconds.
  • A speed menu from 0.75x to 2x.
  • A sleep timer of 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
  • A chapter list. Tap a chapter to play it, or use its download icon to save that chapter.

The player remembers where you stopped, on any device you sign in from. While it plays in the browser, your phone's lock screen and your car's controls work.

Each audiobook opens with short spoken credits saying it was written and narrated by AI and is general information, not professional advice.

Listening offline

Press Podcast app: your audiobook becomes a private podcast where each chapter is an episode. Three steps:

  1. Press Copy link.
  2. Press Apple Podcasts, Overcast, or YouTube Music. Overcast and YouTube Music add the audiobook for you. Apple Podcasts shows where to paste the link.
  3. In any other app, such as Pocket Casts, paste the link where the app adds a show by URL.

Spotify doesn't accept private podcast links. The link is private to you; if you shared it by mistake, contact us and we'll replace it.

Step-by-step guides: iPhone and iPad, Android, and Mac and Windows.

Downloads

Press Download and pick the file that fits where you'll listen:

  • Whole book (M4B), for audiobook apps. Chapters and bookmarks work.
  • Whole book (MP3), plays anywhere, chapters included.
  • Chapters (ZIP), one MP3 per chapter, numbered so they stay in order.

The files are yours to keep, so you can listen offline and use your own apps. File names start with your book's short title. Audio is 192 kbps.

What you may do with it

The audiobook follows your book's license. Personal and Educational audiobooks say "A TailoredRead audiobook" in the credits, and their ZIP includes "License and disclaimer.txt". Commercial and Author audiobooks don't mention TailoredRead in the credits, and their downloads add a Retail sample (MP3) and a Square cover (JPG). Audible doesn't accept AI narration, and some other stores do with a declaration. See Can I share or sell my audiobook? and How do book licenses work?.

Troubleshooting

  • A chapter shows "(narrating now)". Narration runs chapter by chapter, so a long book takes a while. You can play and download finished chapters meanwhile, and the podcast link already has them. The whole-book downloads appear when the last chapter is done.
  • No email. Check your spam folder, then open the book. If the panel shows every chapter and the downloads, the audiobook is ready even if the email went astray.
  • The panel says something went wrong. We've been notified and usually finish it within a day. If it's still not done after that, contact us with the book's URL and your account email, and we'll finish the narration.
