How do I listen to my audiobook on iPhone?
The simplest way is Apple Podcasts with your private podcast link. Each chapter is an episode, you can download them for offline listening, and the app remembers where you stopped. Overcast and BookPlayer are good alternatives.
Open the book from Your Library in Safari and press the headphones button to open the Audiobook panel. Everything below starts there.
Apple Podcasts (recommended)
- In the panel, press Podcast app, then Copy link.
- Open the Podcasts app and tap Library.
- Tap the three dots at the top and choose Follow a Show by URL.
- Paste the link and follow the show.
- Download the episodes you want to hear offline.
On iPad, the same option lives in the Shows section of the sidebar. The link is private to you, so don't post it.
Overcast
Press Podcast app, then Overcast, in the panel. Overcast opens and adds your audiobook as a show. Download the episodes for offline listening. If you copied the link instead, Overcast's add-by-URL option takes it.
BookPlayer with the M4B
BookPlayer is a free audiobook app that plays one file with chapters, remembers your place, and works with CarPlay.
- In the panel, press Download, then tap Whole book (M4B). Safari saves it to the Files app, usually under Downloads in iCloud Drive.
- Open the file in Files and share it to BookPlayer, or import it from inside BookPlayer.
Apple Books on iPhone can't import an audiobook file directly. It only gets one by syncing from a Mac. See How do I listen to my audiobook on a computer?.
Listening in Safari
You don't need an app. Press play in the panel and lock your phone. Playback continues, the lock-screen controls work, and the reader remembers where you stopped. Safari needs an internet connection for this, so download or use a podcast app for flights and subways.
CarPlay
Play from the phone app and it shows up on the car screen. Apple Podcasts, Overcast, and BookPlayer all support CarPlay. Download the chapters on your phone first so a weak signal on the road doesn't interrupt you.
Link opens inside Gmail or Outlook?
The Listen now button in the email may open a small browser inside the mail app, where downloads and app links can fail. Open the link in Safari instead: use the mail app's share or open-in-browser option, or sign in at tailoredread.com/app in Safari and open the book from there.
