How do book licenses work?

What book licenses are available?

TailoredRead offers four types of book licenses:

• Personal ($2–20, varies by length): For individuals and students. Read online or download as PDF. Not editable. Not shareable beyond your household.
• Educational ($24.99): For teachers and academics. Share the book with students for free. Not editable. Not for resale.
• Commercial ($39.99): For businesses, coaches, and professionals. Download as Word (.docx), edit it, and share it publicly for free. Not for resale.
• Author ($49.99): For authors and thought leaders. Download as Word (.docx), edit it, publish it, and sell it for money.

Each book has its own individual license. When you purchase or upgrade to a special license, it applies to that specific book only.

Which license should I choose?

Choose based on how you plan to use the book:

• If you only want to read and study it yourself → Personal
• If you want to share it with students for free → Educational
• If you want to edit it and share it publicly for free → Commercial
• If you want to edit it and sell it for money or publish it → Author

Important:

→ Editing is available only with the Commercial or Author license. Editing is done outside TailoredRead, by downloading the Word (.docx) file.

→ Selling or publishing for profit requires the Author license.

Do licenses apply to one book or all books?

Each license you purchase applies only to the specific book it was purchased for. Not to any past or future books you’ve created. If you buy or upgrade to an Educational, Commercial, or Author license, that license grants special rights for that individual book only. If you want those same rights for other books in your library, you'll need to purchase the appropriate license for each book separately.

How to choose a license for a new book?

Just start creating a book normally. In the final “Review” screen, you’ll see a dropdown enabling you to select a license for your book:

Press the license dropdown to select a license that fits your needs.

How to purchase a different license for an existing book?

You can purchase an advanced license even after purchasing a book.

Please note that when you upgrade a license for a book, the upgrade applies only to that specific book, not to your past or future books.

• Go to Your Library and select the book.
• In the book page, press the ⋮ menu button in the top-right corner.
• Press the “License” button to see the different license options:
• In the dialog, select a license that best suits your needs:
• A confirmation dialog will show up, press “Purchase License” to start the process.
• A clone of the book will be created in Your Library, with the newly purchased license. This process takes approximately a minute.
• Please note that we will not issue refunds for your previous book purchases. For example, if you’ve purchased a book for $14.99 with the default Personal license, and later purchased an Author license, we will not refund the $14.99 you initially paid for the book.
